The Zodiac Signs as Engagement Rings

The Zodiac Signs as Engagement Rings

The engagement ring is a physical manifestation of the promise of marriage; the shape of the ring, a circle, with no beginning or end, is a universal signifier of eternal love. Finding a ring that represents the convergence of your unique character as well as the devotion and commitment to your beloved partner has always been an arduous yet deeply rewarding task. Most of us searching for our ‘forever ring’ will look inwards and consider what facets of ourselves and our relationship we want reflected in a ring design. But, for the moment, along with looking inward, we will also look up to the stars for inspiration.

In Astrology, the twelve astrological Zodiac signs, determined by your alignment with the sun and stars at the time of your birth, are believed to be a key towards understanding our sense of self and outlook on life. Your sun sign is your essence, your core identity; it is how you shine outwards into the world. It represents the vital force that drives you to seek the most actualized expression of self. Whether you believe the celestial bodies have influence or not, considering your search for the perfect engagement ring through the lens of your Zodiac sign is a fun exercise! Read below to find yours.

Aries: The Noa Ring

Noa features a unique, kite-cut diamond, bezel-set in a wide 14k yellow gold band. This modern kite diamond engagement ring is the answer to anyone looking for something distractingly eye-catching, and daringly unique.

The first sign of the Zodiac: Aries, the Ram. They are our natural-born leaders and trend-setters. Ruled by Mars, named after the Roman god of war and desire.  Mars is also known as the Red Planet, which gets its beautiful fiery colour from rust deposits in the soil. An Aries’ fire burns brightest when their outward expression is a reflection of their unwavering inner confidence; therefore, an engagement ring with a bold, contemporary design will suit them best. The Aries aesthetic is effortlessly cool and daringly unique, which is why I have chosen our Noa ring to represent them: featuring a kite-cut diamond, bezel-set in a wide 14k yellow gold band. This modern kite diamond engagement ring is the answer for an Aries looking for something distinctly ahead of the curve.

Taurus: The Delphine Ring

A dainty, 5-stone diamond engagement ring, featuring a pear-cut lab-grown diamond centre, and accented with marquise and round natural diamonds. The Delphine is modern, feminine, and not one you'll likely be able to forget.

The following Zodiac sign is Taurus, the Bull. Taurus is an Earth sign, and is ruled by the planet Venus, which is named after the Roman Goddess of love and beauty! This combination of groundedness and a high value of beauty places Taureans in a unique place—at the intersection of luxury and practicality. They emit an air of refined elegance that is never too much. If you’ve heard of the  ‘quiet luxury’ trend, Taureans have been pioneering this for a long time. The Delphine is a beautifully balanced engagement ring that embodies the Taurus aesthetic. This five-stone beauty boasts an opulent pear-cut lab-grown diamond centre stone, giving an elongating effect to the hand, as well as marquise and round natural diamond accoutrements. The varying stone shapes and sizes contributes to an overall organic look, appropriate for someone that appreciates a natural look.

Gemini: The Avery Ring

Next we have our witty Gemini, ruled by Mercury and represented by the celestial twins. They are perceptive, analytical, and often very funny. They have an unreserved, childlike curiosity, and are always asking new questions.  The Avery ring’s hidden halo is reminiscent of a Gemini’s acute attention to detail and ability to continuously surprise those around them. On the surface, they can use their intelligence and quick wit as a means of protecting themselves,  but if one takes the time to get to know them, the hidden parts of their personality come into view.  The hidden halo transforms this classic oval solitaire into something truly special, and eagle claw prongs show that this ring was designed with great attention to detail and created with expert workmanship—truly perfect for a Gemini.

Cancer: The Juniper Ring

Cancers are ruled by la Luna herself, the Moon.  As a water sign, Cancers are deeply intuitive and sentimental; emotions are their superpower. Therefore, they should choose a ring that expresses the strength in being soft, which is why the Juniper Ring is perfect for a Cancer. This design is named after the Juniper tree, which is associated with strength and resilience in folklore; this can be witnessed in its capacity to survive in harsh, barren climates. Similarly, Cancers are known for their emotional strength and ability to bounce back from adversity. The Juniper ring, featuring a gorgeous oval teal sapphire that floats amid a geometric arrangement of petite diamonds, with sapphires and diamonds ranking 9 and 10 on the Mohs scale of hardness, respectively. This means these stones are as durable as they are beautiful.

Leo: The Isadora Ring

When I think of a Leo, I think of wide-open windows, long sunny days, laughing so hard your stomach hurts, and of course, diamonds. Therefore, for our fiery Leos, ruled by the Sun itself, I have chosen the Isadora Ring (because sometimes, more is more!).  This oval 3-stone beauty is for those with an appreciation for abundance. A 1.1 carat oval lab diamond, framed by two 0.5 carat oval lab diamonds, sits atop a cathedral setting, held in place by round and eagle claw prongs. Each basket is designed to hold each stone in place while allowing light to illuminate from all angles, which is ideal for a Leo as they are most content when they are surrounded by light!

Virgo: The Layla Ring

For our Virgos, ruled by the planet Mercury, only one ring comes to mind—the Layla ring! An old mine-cut diamond centre stone adds touch of nostalgia to this otherwise minimal solitaireDecorative prongs arranged in a compass setting represent a Virgo's practical nature and their ability to navigate through life with precision. Just like a compass guides you in the right direction, this setting symbolizes the Virgo's unwavering ability to make wise decisions. The connection to the Earth’s cardinal directions make this design feel inherently grounded, perfect for a Virgo.

Libra: The Winona Ring

Next we have our lovely Libras, ruled by the planet Venus. Libras are notably the only Zodiac sign represented by an object—the scale. Those born under this air sign are warm individuals that are concerned with attaining harmony, peace, and justice. A Libra craves a sense of equilibrium in all aspects of their lives, which is why an engagement ring with perfect symmetry is the ideal choice. The Winona is a beautifully balanced three-stone engagement ring, featuring a vibrant, east-west set emerald. In folklore, an emerald is often associated with bringing peace, balance and wisdom into the wearer’s life. This stunning centre stone is evenly flanked by two round brilliant-cut natural diamonds. The Winona culminates into a contemporary, and simply unique engagement ring.

Scorpio: The Giselle Ring

The eighth Zodiac sign, Scorpio, is ruled by Pluto. This water sign is symbolized by the scorpion, a fierce creature with an uncanny ability to wait patiently for the perfect strike: the perfect symbol for a Scorpio’s innate intuition. Those born under this sign are resourceful, brave, and passionate. Scorpios tend to be fiercely independent, meaning they might naturally gravitate towards a solitaire engagement ring. The Giselle ring is perfect for a Scorpio, the clean lines of the emerald-cut sapphire are as striking as they are elegant. Four eagle claw prongs gracefully secure the centre stone, finishing the daring aesthetic with precise craftsmanship. Our sample features a teal sapphire with oceanic depths, a Scorpio’s dream.

Sagittarius: The Maisie Ring

For our last fire sign of the Zodiac, we have Sagittarius, ruled by Jupiter and represented by the centaur. Centaurs are mythological creatures that have the upper body of a human, and the lower body of a horse. Sagittarius are the teachers of the Zodiac, and are always ready to lend a helping hand. However, as a fire sign, they do have a wild side that needs honouring, which is why the Maisie ring is an excellent option for a Sagittarius. This ring was designed to stand out in a crowded room, the Maisie draws up visions of 1920s glitz and glamour with a glittering halo of round and baguette diamonds and a romantic sage green centre stone. The earthen colour of the centre stone produces a grounding effect to this decadent design.

Capricorn: The Cordelia Ring

Capricorn, the last of the Earth signs, is ruled by Saturn. They are known for their responsibility, discipline, and stability. Capricorns are typically respectful of tradition, and have a deep connection to the past, which is why a vintage-inspired engagement ring is ideal to symbolize their love and commitment. The Cordelia ring is sure to become a family heirloom, as she is as practical as she is beautiful. The low, finger-hugging setting means that this engagement ring is less likely to catch on things, compared to our more high-profile halo designs (like the Maisie, pictured above!) A rose-cut diamond centre stone is surrounded by a halo of twelve brilliant-cut diamonds atop a steeply tapered band. The juxtaposition of the two different cuts gives this classic design a mesmerizing sparkle.

Aquarius: The Inaya Ring

The penultimate sign, Aquarius, is ruled by the planet Uranus and is represented by the water-bearer. Those born under this air sign are innovative, humanitarian, and have a strong moral compass. A unique engagement ring would suit an Aquarius best. For this reason, I have chosen our Inaya ring! This truly bold design with a low and chunky bezel setting fits in perfectly with the hustle and bustle of daily life. The delicate and refined rose cut shape adds a vintage-inspired beauty that is unparalleled. The large rose-cut white sapphire is transparent, giving the stone a window-esque quality that is symbolic of an Aquarius’ transparent nature.

Pisces: The Ume Ring

Finally we have Pisces, our final sign in the Zodiac, ruled by the planet Neptune. Pisces is symbolized by two fish swimming in opposite directions, which is said to represent the division of their attention between fantasy and reality. I can envision our imaginative Pisces wearing the adorable Ume ring. The Ume is for someone who wears their heart on their sleeve (but wants a bezel setting to keep it secure & protected!) This setting not only provides a sturdy and protective hold for the stone, but also creates a visually striking frame that accentuates its heart shape. This design embodies playfulness, passion, and vulnerability. The Ume captures the essence of true love, perfect for a Pisces.
