How to Clean and Care For Your Jewellery

How to Clean and Care For Your Jewellery

They say diamonds are a girls best friend, and if that’s the case, you’ll want to treat them (or any other jewels) with lots of love and care. Read on to find out how to keep your jewelry pieces sparkling for years to come.

So good news! It is SUPER easy to take good care of your fine jewelry.

All of our jewelry is made with solid gold (unless you opt for platinum) which is a precious metal that will not oxidize or discolor. This makes out pieces perfect for everyday wear, so you can wear your pieces in the shower, to sleep if you’d like, etc. That being said, gold is still prone to scratches and other normal signs of wear, so if you’re doing outdoor activities like hiking, climbing, sports, or anything where your hand might get knocked around a bit, we suggest maybe leaving the jewelry (especially engagement rings) at home. Things like earrings and necklaces are usually a bit more secure so you don’t have to worry as much about taking them off.

If you’re not wearing your jewelry, we recommend storing it in a little pouch, jewelry tray, or box - all of our engagement rings and wedding bands come with a ring box, so you’re all set there!

Our pieces all come with a polishing cloth, so whenever you think of it, or notice that your piece looks like it needs a little extra shine, just give it a little gentle wipe.

How to clean and care for your engagement ring

We recommend giving your jewelry a proper clean every two weeks - a month or so, but that’s totally up to your discretion. All you have to do is fill up a little bowl with some boiling hot water,  and the tiniest drop of dish soap, and put your piece(s) in and let them sit for a few minutes. Then, give your jewelry a little swish around (we recommend using a chopstick!). If your pieces have stones in them like on an engagement ring or a diamond pendant, take a toothbrush or other form of soft bristled brush, and give the stones a little brush underneath to remove any excess grime and to give your stones that like-new sparkle. Any plain gold pieces just need a bit of buffing from the polishing cloth afterwards.

If you feel your jewelry needs an extra good clean, you can take your piece into us (or a local jeweller if you aren’t in vancouver) and have it run through an ultra sonic cleaner.

PLEASE NOTE - if your ring features an emerald, moonstone, opal, morganite, sunstone, or basically anything that isn’t a sapphire, diamond or moissanite, do NOT put it through the ultra sonic cleaner as it could potentially damage/ruin your stone.

And that’s it! Easy peasy.

xx
