• 14k gold is 58.5% pure gold, with a bit more alloy for added strength.

An easy way to remember it: the higher the number, the softer the metal, because it's more pure. So 18k has a richer colour and a more luxurious feel, while 14k is a little tougher and better suited to everyday wear.

How It Affects Colour

The amount of pure gold also changes the look of each colour.

Yellow gold gets its glow from a mix of copper and silver alloys. The higher the gold content, the more yellow the tone, so 18k yellow gold is a brighter, richer yellow, while 14k is softer and warmer.
