Every so often a custom engagement ring takes on a life of its own. The Sofia began the way all of our custom pieces do: a conversation in our Gastown studio, a partner with an idea, and someone very specific to design it for. What came out of it was a ring that quietly broke the rules of what fine jewellery engagement rings are supposed to look like, pearls and all. It found an audience online almost immediately, and it has since earned a permanent place in the Evorden collection. We sat down with Sofia to talk about vintage silhouettes, the pearls she always dreamed of wearing, and what it feels like to have a ring that so many people now want a version of their own.

When you first started talking about rings, what styles or details were you naturally drawn to?

I think when the conversation started about rings I wanted something vintage or vintage inspired. I loved the idea of intricate detailing and something more than just one singular stone and that’s all! I was definitely naturally drawn to the elongated shapes, oval, marquis were definitely in discussion.

How did your partner capture your personal style in the final design?

I am definitely more of a maximalist, I’m super inspired by vintage silhouettes and my personal style tends to lean to anything but simple. The ring compliments my everyday style and vibe. Everyone tells me that it fits my personality so well!

Was there a specific detail in the ring that felt especially meaningful to you?

I can’t talk about this ring without talking about the pearls. I was born in June and have always loved pearl jewelry. It was always a dream of mine to somehow incorporate pearls into my engagement ring because of the vintage feel. The addition of the pearls to my ring is so personalized and special to the jewelry I already love to wear it fits perfectly with the rest of my pieces and makes it so unique!

How does it feel knowing your ring will now live on as “The Sofia” in the Evorden collection?

I’m overjoyed! I’ve gotten so many compliments on my ring and absolutely love to tell the backstory. It’s been so nice to have people tell me “wow I didn’t know I could have pearls in my ring I love that idea!” and I think it inspires people to be able to think more outside of the box on what rings they want to wear forever! It should feel absolutely you, and I’m so happy to share a piece of John and I to everyone who would love it!
